LDS Movie Review: Jane and Emma (2018)
Jane and Emma (2018) This is an historical drama documenting the relationship between Jane Manning (Danielle Deadwyler), an African American convert, and Joseph (Brad Schmidt) and Emma Smith (Emily Goss). The story particularly deals with the support provided by Manning on the day that Joseph is murdered. The movie also deals with racial discrimination even among leaders and members of the church. However Jane remains faithful to the church throughout her life; even traveling to Salt Lake. A theme of the movie deals with finding your place, and why God leads you to where you are at. Above all, we must remember that we are all children of God.

Bradley Koeven I thought it was brilliant. The film captures the deep faith struggle of Jane manning, while fairly grappling with the racism of Manning's white contemporaries and weaves those threads together into a compelling and brilliant story about a Latter-Day Saint who overcame doubt and the burdens of racism to be a faithful Latter-Day Saint despite what she suffered. It is worth your time.
