Movie review: ***^Bolt (2008)

***^Bolt (2008)  This is a movie I watched with grandkids, and if not for them may have missed it.  It is on Instant Netflix.  I found it pretty fun.  The idea is a regular dog, Bolt (John Travolta) is made to appear a super hero dog with special powers via movie making special effects.  However when he is separated from his child costar (Miley Cyrus), and has to make his way back, he starts to realize just how normal he is.  However he is still special to his master, and thus begins a classic cross country journey.  Somehow our dog was accidentally shipped to the East but he is from Hollywood.  He recruits the help of a crazy-looking, realistic cat (Susie Essman)and a hamster (Mark Walton) in a ball.  Nothing will convince the hamster that Bolt isn’t for real and doesn’t have super powers.  He has been watching him for years.  It is quite a journey, and when he finally arrives he has been replaced; or has he.  A real fire seems to show just who loves the child star, and who is willing to rescue her.  This movie is actually entertaining, and the cat and hamster characters are funny. 

Now 48: That's What I Call Music (2013)

If this is an example of where music is headed, I am disappointed.  So lets start with the good.  Katy Perry does a great job with "Roar."  This song will be played over and over.  There is another number one, "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke.  I did not care for this as much.  "Everything Has Changed" by Taylor Swift is also acceptable.  however the rest comes off to me as noise.  It is interested how music has changed.  As for Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus I just don't get them.  Miley Cyrus sings "It's my body and I'll do what I want to."  She sounds like a spoiled two-year-old.

TV Music Review: A Very Murray Christmas (2015) (Miley Cyrus, Silent Night)

This is a christmas special which was available through Netflix this year.  Bill Murray is due to host a Christmas Eve special.  However New York is snowed in, and as his special guests are not going to show, he is looking for anyone to perform.  I felt most of this show was a train wreck.  The performances are very poor, with the exception of Miley Cyrus singing "Silent Night."  However even that is convoluted because Miley Cyrus and George Clooney only show up in Bill Murray's dream after he passes out due to drinking too much alcohol.  Paul Shaffer is also a breath of fresh air in this mess.  He is very talented on the piano, as shown by his playing for Miley Cyrus.

Music Review: Miley Cyrus: Breakout

I love the young Miley Cyrus.  The Hannah Montana thing was good and wholesome.  Miranda ans I went to the 3-D concert; it was fun.  Miley is no longer fun.  She has lost herself, trying to find herself.  The best song on this album is a cover, " Girls Just Want to Have Fun".  I don't care for the song "Breakout" but enjoy "These Four Walls" and "Bottom of the Ocean" which have the old feel.  Cyrus has a nice voice which is pleasing to listen to; she doesn't need any gimmicks.  She concludes with "Goodbye" which has very good energy and emotion.  The title for the album is telling.  Breakout not breaking out.  She is using a command to herself.  I find that telling.
