Movie Review: ****Pete's Dragon (1977)

This is the original Pete's Dragon, and it is a bonafide musical.  I really enjoy musicals so I have to give this movie the nod as to the best Pete's Dragon.  Nora (Helen Reddy) lives with her father (Mickey Rooney) where the tend a light house.  The come upon an orphan boy who is running from his adoptive parents, who mean for him to do their work and they are abusive to him.  Mrs. Gagon, the mother is portrayed by Shelley Winters.  The other two character are a shyster doctor (Jim Dale) and his assistant (Red Buttons).  When the doctor gets word of a dragon he is determined to catch him and chop him up so he can use every bit.  There is plenty to like with this movie, but it is another one of those bad adoption stories.  However the relationship between Nora and Pete is sweet.  She is able to become his new mother.
Reddy sings a very popular song, "Candle on the Water:"

In this version Pete the dragon is animated while the rest of the characters are real.  I have already really loved this show.

Movie Review: Night at the Museum

Night at the Museum is an intriguing story.  At one time it seems to lose its way with just too much noise, confusion and stuff going on, but it gets back to the major plot. 

Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) takes a job as a night watchman. He doesn’t really want to, as he is an inventor who has had bad luck.  However, in order to continue to visit his son who lives with his ex-wife, he needs a job. He replaces three old codgers, which provides cameos for Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney and Bill Cobbs.  The thing only the night watchmen at this museum know, everything comes to life at night.  This is because of an ancient Egyptian tablet.  Amongst the characters we also meet Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) Sacagawea (Mizuo Peck) Jedediah a cowboy (Owen Wilson) and a centurion (Steve Coogan). We also add a tour guide (Carla Gugino) at the museum, for a love interest.  Our old codgers are too pleased about being replaced.  The plan to steal the tablet, and anything else they can take, and pin it all on our new night guard.  It is gong to take the cooperation of everyone to fix this mess.  Worse, if any museum characters are out at night, the turn to dust, and it will be the end of the job.

Movie Review: ***^The Fox and the Hound (1981)

This is a story of friendship.  The friends are on opposite sides of a spectrum, a hunting dog, Copper (Kurt Russell) and a fox, Tod (Mickey Rooney).  While they are small, this is OK.  However, when the get older they are intended to be mortal enemies.  It takes a large bear to remind them of their friendship.  Other characters include Vixey (Sandy Duncan), the fox's girlfriend.  The wise owl, Big Mama (Pearl Bailey) can see things from a different perspective, which she uses to improve things.
