Picture Book Review: Madeline

This is a cute story about a little girl who lives at a convent school, and ends up at the hospital to get her appendix out.  I love the "two strait lines, and the youngest was Madeline."  This is a book for reading aloud.

Movie Review: ***^Madeline (1998)

This is an entertaining children's movie based on the book by Ludwig Bemelmans.  These are children's book I love because of the catchcy melody to the rhymes of the story.  "

“In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines
Lived twelve little girls in two straight lines
In two straight lines they broke their bread
And brushed their teeth and went to bed.
They left the house at half past nine
In two straight lines in rain or shine-
The smallest one was Madeline.” 

The story is a little week, but catches some of the spirit form the books.  Madeline lives in a girl's school, which is set to be sold.  Pepito is the son of the Spanish ambassador who live next door.  His loud behavior drives away several prospective buyers.  The girls encourage him in this.  When they visit the carnival, and Pepito is also there, this sets up another challenge, and in his way Pepito comes out the hero.  

If you like Madeline, this is a good movie.  Who didn't read these books to their kids, as they were growing up.
