Musical Review: The Addams Family Musical (1 of 4)

I was turned on to a song from this musical by our Broadway review, and felt it would be nice to see the entire musical.  Warning: In the show a child smokes because he is "stressed."  It also shows too much cleavage and makes a joke of a grandmother wetting herself. Now the bad stuff is out of the way, there is much to enjoy here.  The story is about a young woman growing up, and becoming engaged, and the family dealing with the pressures this creates.  The music is lively, and the actors do very well.  I especially like the characters of the grooms parents.  They are sufficiently hysterical, and part of the story is about them refinding the flame.  In fact this story is about all three couples growing and rekindling their flames.  The song presented at the Broadway review is still probably the one I like best:
Let's live before we die... 
lets laugh before we cry
Let's hold each other tight and die
Let's try before we fail
Let's fly before we bail
Let's keep things black and white and dance!

The dance adds a lot to this song.  Enjoy!!!!!!

Musical review: The Unauthorized Musical of Samantha Brown

This is an authorized copy of a mediocre musical with lots of screaming but not much entertainment.  It is a look at the ordinary senior year of Samantha Brown who is the valedictorian, but not sure if she wants to go to college.  There are five characters, her best friend, her boyfriend, her parents and herself.  Of course, with the popular logic, an ordinary senior year includes losing your virginity, and this happens in a fit of anger at her mother.  The bit about her getting her license to drive is mildly amusing and worthy of mention.  In this scene she faces all of her fears and doubts.

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND performance at Hamilton High School

This high school version of Once on this Island is passable, but it made me long for Mark's performance at Cupertino High School.  That was Mark's senior year and he did such as a good job as the beautiful man, Daniel Beauxhomme.  From his driving the car through to the end, as he professes some girls you marry, and some you love.  (If anyone has a taped version of that, I would very much appreciate seeing it.)  In this  version Ti Moune is very good.  As for the rest of the  case, Ti Moune's parents are also good.  However, there are some pitchiness problems with the gods and many of the other cast members.
