This is a documentary of the band Fleetwood Mac during a period after
they were joined by two American musicians: Lindsey Buckingham vocals
and guitar and Stevie Nicks vocals. These two brought new
energy to the group which already included Mick Fleetwood on drums, John
McVie on bass and Christine McVie on keyboard. This album was born in
hardship. The band had two couples, Stevie and Lindsey and John and
Christine. As they were making the album Rumours, both couples were
coming to an end. Some of the splits were very messy. John had a very
difficult losing Christine, but later realized his behavior had driven
her away. In this environment, it is hard to see how they could make
music together. They would come to the studio and not talk to each
other to deal with their pain, but they would make music together. This
album was their most successful, and included their number one single,
Dreams. This song was written by Stevie Nix. It also included one of
my favorite "Go Your Own Way" which Lindsey wrote about his relationship
with Stevie. Christine wrote a popular song "You make Loving Fun"
about the lighting director, not her husband. Another popular song on
the album is "Don't Stop" also written by Christine. It is amazing
these people, who really didn't want to be together could make this
music. They drew upon their pain, and put that emotion into their
music. Another force opposing their music was the drug scene. They
could talk about it later after they had become clean, but drugs was a
negative influence on the band.
One thing interesting about the movie is the producers showing how different tracks were added which added depth to the music.
