Movie Review: **** Labor Day with Kate Winslet (2013)

 Labor Day is a movie that lets you know love can be found in the strangest of locations.  Adele (Kate Winslet) has been abandoned by her husband, Gerald (Clark Gregg).  Adele is left depressed but still cares for her son, Henry (Gattlin Griffith and portrayed as an adult by Tobey Maguire who also narrates).  Another man enters the picture in the person of Frank (Josh Brolin) escaped prisoner who was convicted of murder.  He convinces Adele and Henry to take him home.  He says just for the weekend, but by the time the weekend is over they decide to all take off to Canada.  Adele gets her money from the bank to pay for the trip.  This and Gerald leaving father a note, and telling the girlfriend he is leaving leads several people to know what is gong on.  Adele loves Frank, as the sirens come to the house he ties Adele and Henry up so they can say they were kidnapped.  Franks gets 25 more years, 10 for escape and 15 for kidnap.  Adele tells the prosecuting attorney they were not kidnapped, but he cautions then she would be charged with aiding.  

Henry takes up baking.  He was taught by Frank while he was there for a short time.  He also likes baseball, as given confidence by Frank.  However when father wants his son she does not object.  Frank makes contact after seeing Henry with his pie in a magazine.  He mentions seeing Adele when he is released.  That is what happens, and the love story finally finds a home.

I was in tears at this point.  The movie built to that climax very well.  

Spider Man Movie Summaries

 I am putting Spider Men movies in their own spot as for the most part they do not fit into the Marvel Universe Phases.  Four actors have portrayed Spider Man in the movies: Tobey MaGuire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland as Peter Parker' And then Shameik Moore as Miles Morales.  The Tom Holland is also found in several Avenger movies playing Spider Man including Avenger Civil War, Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.  There are other animated carton versions available on t.v. as well.  The next version appears to be a sequel to the Spider Verse.  Should be fun.

*****Avengers: End Game.  Spider gets blipped back, and helps in the final battle, carrying the gauntlet for a time.  

*****Spider Man: No Way Home: Movie Review

 In my mind the movie of the year 2021.  It is the movie that made the most money, and the movie I have enjoyed the most.  The three Spider Men is just cool and brings back so many fond memories.  This is the funnest movie of 2021 and the highest grossing.  You have Spider Man (Tom Holland) interaction with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and also interacting with MJ (Zendaya).  In addition to past Spider Man versions making an appearance; you also have the bad guys, Green Goblin, Electro, Octavius, Dr Connors/Lizard, and Sandman.  This movie is a good time.  It is no wonder it has made loads of money at the box office.  I wish the Oscars would wake up and reward the movies people like.  The only Oscar nomination is best visual effects.  The Oscars have become less relevant as they focus too much on someone's definition of woke (not mine).  But this movie has it all, nostalgia, love, heartache and action.

Movie Review: *****Seabiscuit (2003)

Seabiscuit 2003  This movie was totally delightful.  Seabiscuit is the horse.;   It features Jeff Bridges as Charles Howard, the owner of the horse, Chris Cooper as Tom Smith the trainer, and Tobey Maguire as Red Pollard, the jockey.  All the main characters have had their downs, and they all have something to prove.  This movie is about overcoming.  Seabiscuit was used to train other horses.  To instill confidence in the other horses he was held back, and became use to losing.  The trainer sets out to find his real heart.  To  me Smith is too old.  Charles Howard’s son died in a car accident, and his wife left him.  Red Pollard has been kicked around his whole life.  The world of a jockey is a dog eat dog world.  He has lost his vision in one eye from abuse.  This movie has a great positive message.

Movie Review: ****^Spider Man III

In this were are introduced to the Sand Man, who actually shot Uncle Ben.  Spider Man also faces his dark side, as he comes in contact with an alien symbiotic organism. Peter is then faced with a darker alter ego.  He becomes mean to those around him, but finally beats the symbiode off, and the symbiode attaches to Peter's rival photographer at the Bugle, making Carnage who becomes Spider Man's other rival.  They gang up on him.  In the mean time Harry has become the Green Goblin, and had run ins with Spider Man.  However the Green Goblin comes to Spidey's rescue in the end.  I really dislike the reporters when Spider Man is getting beat up.  They detract from the action rather than adding to it.
Tony loves Spider Man and talking about the symbiode that crashed from outer space and made Black Spider Man and Carnage. 

Movie Reviews:*****Spider-Man II

***** Spider Man II: This movie takes up where the last left off.  Harry has a sense of vengeance  against Spider Man.  This effects all he does, and his relationship with Peter Parker.  The relationship between Mary (whose hair has toned down some) and Peter continues to bloom, even through a wedding to The Bugle editor's (J Jonah Jameson's) son and Mary Jane.  She shows up at Peter's in her wedding dress, after fleeing the ceremony,  how romantic.  In the meantime Peter makes a friend with Dr. Octavius, whose experiment with nuclear fusion goes awry, turning him into a super villain with eight limbs, four metallic.  He makes a worthy bad guy as the robotics takes over his conscience.  Of course Mary Jane is put in harms way, and she discovers Peter is Spider Man.

*****Spider Man: This movie introduced us to Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, who had flaming red hair in the first movie of the trilogy.  We also see Mary Jane's family, and next door, Peter Parker living with his Aunt and Uncle.  Peter the nerd, becomes Spider Man, after a trip to a science laboratory and a spider bite.  He then faces the Green Goblin, (Willem Dafoe) who is Harry's (James Franco) father.  Harry is his best friend.  The action is great, as is the budding relationship between Mary Jane and Peter Parker.  We also see the emotions of the change, and accepting the responsibility of being a super hero.  Finally Peter realizes those he loves are in harms way, and this affects all he does.  Harry, dates Mary Jane, and Spider Man and the Green Goblin have a war, which results in the Goblin's death.  My only complaint, we want to know how Peter came to live with his aunt and uncle.
