Movie Review: ****^Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
This is musical theater at its best. Some of these songs you hum over and over. The plot is seven brothers, the oldest of which, Adam (Howard Keel) goes to town to get a bride, and comes back with one, Nellie (Jane Powell). However all is not right, as there are six more brothers who also need wives. The song, "Pole Cat" is one of my favorite. It combines the rhythm of the wood chopping in a very effective manner. The boys are restless, and want wives, or they start talking about moving away. However Adam has an idea, although not a very good one, and one bound to lead to problems. He mans up at the end of the movie and takes blame for his mistake, and does his best to try to set things right. This is a very good movie about family love, and life in a different time.
